#4 Saturday 2pm-6pmGame Description
Alright, so this game takes place in a setting I use for a campaign with my primary tabletop group. The setting is somewhat anime inspired, but even those who aren't fans of anime will probably enjoy it – though that may just be my ego talking.I’m going to try to sum up all relevant information on the setting without making an all too ridiculous wall of text, after which will be some preamble for the actual events taking place in the game along with the guidelines for character creation. (Note; I will have pre-generated characters available if you don’t want/don’t know how to make a character for GURPS.)
Setting
The game takes place on an alternate universe Earth. In the year 2014, an event occurred that awakened Earth’s connection with magic. In short order, militaries all over the world sought to control the secrets of magic; resulting in the confinement and study of people with an innate talent for channeling magic. Things got worse before they got better; the discovery of magical sites of power lead to countries with stronger militaries ignoring borders and annexing regions of neighboring countries to study said sites. To make matters horrendously worse, some countries were under the control of supernatural beings and borderline gods. Long story short, this resulted in a magic-fueled World War which almost halved the population of Earth. The outcome of this war; the entirety of the civilized world being under the control of the UNGC (United Nations Global Command) – an immense military force dedicated to ‘peacekeeping’ through extreme measures. The UNGC operates under the doctrine that magic is too dangerous to be in the hands of anyone other than the UNGC; as such, the UNGC will incarcerate or execute Mages. (Note; in this setting the term Mage doesn't only apply to people who are throwing spells around, it means anyone with magical influence.) It’s not entirely easy to detect most Mages – as such, the UNGC has a large military presence in every country and utilizes surveillance, propaganda, and sometimes just brute force to uphold their law. Since the enforcement of the UNGC's laws started, several resistance cells have cropped up around the world to retaliate against the tyranny of the UNGC, however with the memories of the war still lingering, support for resistance groups remains small.
Preamble and Character Creation
The date is January 6 2021. Your characters are students at a high school in Tokyo, Japan. Your characters are secretly Mages and belong to a group of students who know each other’s secret. Every once in a while you all get together at your school after sundown and just hang out, play games, chat, etc – without having to worry about hiding what you are. This is one of those nights. Would be a damn shame if something ruined it.
For creating your characters (if you choose to do so) you have a base point pool of 150 with a cap of additional points you can receive from disadvantages of 75. A couple things to note; you’re pretty free to design whatever powers you like for your character within those limitations, however be reasonable with it and keep balance in mind. For example; if you put 200 points into something like Leech, I will veto your character and hand you a pre-gen. Lastly, keep in mind when designing your character’s physical appearance that features that are unnatural and easy to spot would have likely resulted in your character’s arrest or execution long ago, but certain traits aren't considered to me a major enough indicator of innate magic. For example; a character with naturally pink hair would not be arrested. A character with cat ears would be. So your pink haired cat girl would be wise to invest in a hat.
I’d better not end up with multiple pink haired cat girls in the group for saying that.
This game is connected to another in slot 8; however participation in both is not required. It is possible that at the end of the game your character gets separated from the group – and at the beginning of the next game there will be an opportunity for new characters to join.
